Where and How Do You Eat Your Meals?
Our emotions may be causing an unhealthy relationship with food, but were you aware that where you eat, and even how you eat, needs to be considered if you want to benefit from healthy eating habits?
Eating too many meals out is usually not a good thing unless you have been coached to use something like flexible dieting and can stick to your macros. This could mean that you are eating at work, most likely in front of the computer or in some other environment which is less than ideal. When we are not prepared or stressed and busy at work, often times we are tempted to eat comfort food, fast food and other unhealthy food items.
And speaking of work, lets touch again on eating at your desk. If you absolutely must, make sure you pack a healthy lunch. By the way, if you are eating while you watch your favorite television program, you are probably sitting on the couch. These are the wrong places to eat, as they promote bad posture, poor digestion, and mindless eating.
Choosing the proper location for healthy eating means choosing an ideal location where you are present. Home for most is one of the better options. Set aside time in your schedule to plan your meals whenever you can. This means non-distracted eating, focusing on your food. Sit in a comfortable chair with a straight back.
This aids in proper digestion. And when you set aside time specifically for slowly eating and enjoying a healthy meal, you benefit from the proper “how” of eating.
How you eat as is important as where and why you eat. Do not eat when you are in a reclined position. Eat slowly, giving yourself a chance to properly digest your food. Studies also show that eating food with your hands can cause you to eat too much, and too fast.
Use utensils whenever you can, and eat in a healthy environment with good posture. Choose a location that is distraction-free, and chew your food slowly. These are all signs of a positive and healthy relationship with food. In the end, its about being present.
