Our Biggest Breakthrough
2016 has had quite the interesting start for my clients this year! I think its fair to say that most of us really did experience the winter blues and just couldn’t pull ourselves out of it last month, including myself. From illnesses and deaths, to injuries, job changes, to ending marriages; you name it, it happened. One thing I am so thankful for is my private group in which all of my clients belong to and can open up on there without judgement. As a coach, my main goal is to work with the many emotions of clients on a daily basis, we talk about them, I listen, and we design a plan to move forward for that week.
Just recently I had posted about my client Lindsay Jean and her transformation journey being published in the last issue of Inside Fitness for Women! Lindsay has come so far with me despite the challenges that we have been faced with over the past few years, BUT there was something that still wasn’t right. Rewind to a few weeks ago where Lindsay contacted me and basically threw in the towel, she was just done with feeling the way she had been, doing everything she could and not seeing that scale budge but more importantly just on how she felt daily. She was sluggish, tummy issues, bloating and plain old miserable with sugar and carb cravings constantly.
I asked to take a look at her current eating plan. Now, to explain things a bit, I don’t tell my clients what they can and cannot eat, its flexible dieting, they get to choose their foods but when it comes to a point where I believe its something they are eating, I ask to take a look. It wasn’t until then that it became very apparent to me that some of the foods Lindsay was eating were in fact the culprit to why she was feeling the way she was. I then asked if she would be willing to remove certain foods for just a week, just a WEEK and see how she felt. Items such as oats, protein powders, sugar free condiments, salsa, and wraps and switch to just whole foods. Simple foods that she has had removed for so long because these other foods took over and were more comforting.
Trying to interrupt the ever so detailed, to a T schedule that this type A personality has, I knew Lindsay was going to be reluctant, and she was. I left her alone for a while to ponder it all until she came around and decided to give it a go. Whats the worst that could happen, right?
One week down, actually 6 days down and every issue that Lindsay was facing was GONE! No more tummy issues, no more bloating and over a 7lbs drop. 7LBS!!!! Now, we all know this is not ‘fat’ but it was everything that Lindsay was carrying inside her body that was completely weighing herself down, literally.
My reason for this post, and I cannot stress it enough; just because you are eating ‘healthy’ and ‘clean’ foods, does not mean they work for YOU. Be open to change, even if its just for 1 week. Allow the time to try, its how we all learn. Start learning your body and listening to it rather than focusing on the notion that if a food is considered healthy and clean, low calorie, sugar free, it must be good for you and should work.
