5 Mentors Every Successful Entrepreneur Needs
Probably one of the coolest things to happen to me in 2016 so far! Just a few days ago I had an article featured in Inc. Magazine online. I have best selling author Amy Morin to thank for this opportunity and if you are not familiar with her, make sure you head over to her website and check out her story and buy her book – 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do.
In the article I spoke of the 5 mentors I believe every successful entrepreneur needs:
- The established professional
For me, I have quite a few significant mentors that I would consider established professionals. Anywhere from my old boss from my accounting days to other individuals in the fitness industry that I admire and aspire to be like. They offer me great advice and compassion towards what I have been through and where I am wanting to go.
- The lateral colleague
The lateral mentor when it comes to my industry can be very hard to come by but I have been pretty lucky to have a few key individuals in which we support each other in what we do and never fear each other ‘stealing our business or ideas’.
- The outspoken individual
The outspoken mentor for some (including myself) can be tough to take but always means well. They are the ones that will offer constructive criticism but only because they are looking out for your best interest. Typically I find #1 and #3 to be a lot of the same individuals.
- A friend who knew you before you took the leap
Ah, my favorite one! These are the best type of mentors one can have to keep yourself grounded. These are some really key girlfriends in my life that I have had for 20+ years. When we get together, we might quickly talk about our jobs but then move right into family, kids, life and just the good old girl chats. We all need this in our lives.
- The liaison
Another great mentor everyone needs. These people can really help to put you on the map, but first, you need to show authenticity and that you can offer value to what you are wanting to achieve. These people will put themselves out on a limb for you and it can eventually help lead to some great success.
