4 Factors That Make Us Fat
One of the common misconceptions most people have is that what we put into our mouths is what makes us fat. For the most part that is true, but there are other factors most of us don’t realize that are contributing to that weight gain.
These 4 factors are – STRESS, ADRENALS, CORTISOL AND YOUR THYROID
Think about how many life changing events you have experienced in the last 2 years. Probably a lot, right?
Studies show the greater the number of life changing events people experience in a 2 year period the more frequently they become ill. So, it makes sense that stress has now surpassed the common cold as the more prevalent health problem, but so many do not know how to treat it like they do the common cold. The cold is easy to fix, take some meds, get some sleep, drink lots of fluids and you are good to go in just a few days. Stress however, cannot be treated the same way.
We are all affected by stress; negative emotions, depression, loneliness, unrealistic expectations, fear, anxiety, weight gain, money and the list goes on.
Here is where the vicious cycle starts:
With the constant state of stress we are in, the more our cortisol levels become elevated, which in turn exhausts and wears on our adrenal glands, and if the adrenal glands are exhausted the thyroid will not manufacture enough thyroid hormone. End result? Weight gain, hormone imbalance, low thyroid, cravings, fatigue, low libido, moodiness, etc.
The majority of my coaching revolves around dealing with these issues. When you are wanting to make a lifestyle change, get fit and lose weight, diving into all of these are what is going to give you long terms results. Sure the latest fad diet or quick fix will give you instant results and gratification – for the moment – but are you willing to end up in an even worse state both mentally and physically only short time later?
